After analyzing each of the teams' posters for their context and product trends, there are certain things that may be observed to have been repeated throughout the last 30 years. While the economy has fluctuated numerous times, the worst decline occurred in 1980. Because of our current economical situation, which is very similar to that of 1980, one may look to the following years to make connections as to where our economy or styles may be headed in 2010. After 2 years, the recession of 1980 began to subside, but the fashions still represented the struggles of the years before. While some bold colors still existed, more neutral and pastel colors began to emerge, as is typical of an economic depression. Also, a boxy and loose silhouette took hold, as the consumer confidence of the time declined.
Another economic downturn occurred in 1988 leading to another cycle of trends in the following years. Again, loose clothing was favored, along with more casual wear and drab colors.
The occurrence of these cycles is an indicator as to what may be in the future of fashion. Because our economy is struggling now, we can hope that in 2 years there will be some recovery. However, because trends are being forecasted now and being influence by consumer bahaviors at this time, we will be seeing trends in 2 years that are typical of a period of economic decline. Therefore, I predict that color in 2010 will be less bold (pastels and neutrals) and silhouttes will be loose and casual/comfortable.
